Memorial Hospital Miramar's pediatric services include a leading-edge pediatric inpatient unit, which is operated in affiliation with Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Our commitment to our patients and their families is to provide high-quality pediatric care in a safe, family-centered environment.
Patient- and Family-Centered Care
At the heart of the Memorial Hospital Miramar Pediatric Inpatient Unit is patient- and family-centered care. Each patient room is a private suite designed to help meet the physical, emotional and psychosocial needs of children from infancy through the teen years. The warm, homelike setting offers opportunities for nurturing and healing. The unit includes a pediatric resource center and a specially designed family playroom.
Designed for Child Safety
The unit has some of the latest technology for patient monitoring, electronic documentation, security, barcode medication administration and communication systems. Wireless telephones allow caregivers to communicate directly with patients, family members and other medical care providers. Pagers notify staff of patient needs. Amidst the technology is an environment filled with compassionate and individualized pediatric care.
Multidisciplinary Model
Board-certified pediatricians and pediatric hospitalists, together with an array of pediatric subspecialists, provide care to our pediatric patients, which include newborns to children up to 17 years of age. Our nurses are certified in pediatric advanced life support and many are certified in the specialty of pediatric nursing, which requires advanced education and specific pediatric care training. Respiratory therapists, child life specialists, social workers, lactation specialists, speech pathologists, occupational and physical therapists are in-house to provide care, support, education and consultation.
In addition to traditional philosophies on healing, we also have pet therapy available. Pet therapy is known for having a calming effect on children.
